Secretary-General of Asean Kao Kim Hourn lauded AirAsia Cambodia for boosting connectivity across the Kingdom and the region, said a statement issued by the Office of the Asean Secretary-General on Friday.
This came as Hourn received Vissoth Nam, CEO of AirAsia Cambodia, at the Asean Headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia.
AirAsia Cambodia, created through a joint venture between AirAsia Aviation Group and Sivilai Asia in 2022, to boost the connectivity across the Kingdom as well as the region.
Hourn commended AirAsia Cambodia’s efforts to make air travel more accessible and affordable for everyone while boosting connectivity, read the statement.
He also emphasised Asean’s commitment towards developing an integrated, competitive, and environmentally sustainable aviation sector that supports regional tourism and socio-economic growth, the statement pointed out.
During the discussion, they explored collaborative opportunities to boost regional aviation and enhance seamless connectivity across the Asean region, it added.
“Increased flight connectivity will deepen regional integration. It will also open up new opportunities in the tourism sector of the region.”
Hourn asserted that increased connectivity remains integral for the continued growth of the Asean region.

Nam reaffirmed AirAsia Cambodia’s commitment to further boost flight connectivity and affordability for passengers. “We will continue to contribute towards the strengthening of the Asean aviation sector,” he said.
Three weeks ago, AirAsia Cambodia launched its inaugural flights between Phnom Penh and Hanoi, Vietnam.
The new service adds over 1,000 visitor seats weekly, connecting two vibrant capitals and opening new avenues for tourism, culture, and commerce.
Nam said, “We are thrilled to celebrate this new chapter for AirAsia Cambodia by connecting Phnom Penh and Hanoi, especially during the festive Lunar New Year holiday.
“This new route will provide direct and affordable travel options between two vibrant capital cities, fostering cultural exchange and boosting tourism. The overwhelming response to today’s fully booked flights is a testament to the demand for this route.”

He added, “With this launch, we are confident to connect travellers from around the world to Cambodia and Vietnam through the AirAsia Group’s extensive network of over 130 destinations.”
Since starting its operations in May 2024, AirAsia Cambodia has rapidly expanded its network. In addition to its core domestic route to Siem Reap, the airline has introduced international services to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, and now Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi in Vietnam.
Delivering over 10,000 weekly visitor seats to and from Cambodia, AirAsia Cambodia is playing a pivotal role in boosting tourism and supporting local economies.
With exciting new destinations on the horizon, the airline is well-positioned to continue driving growth in the region.
