KUALA LUMPUR: Over 3,000 stakeholders were engaged for the Gig Workers Bill which is set to be tabled in the upcoming parliament sitting beginning in June says Steven Sim.

The Human Resources Minister said the draft of the Bill was completed after research, consultation and town halls involving the concerned parties.

“For gig workers, the government is listening to your concerns.

“The government has finally completed drafting the Bill,” he said in a speech at the Labour Day 2025 Carnival at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil here on May 1.

Sim urged all parties to support the effort to uphold the welfare of gig

.

“I call on everyone to not halt the government’s efforts to protect the welfare of workers,” he said.

Sim also announced that a one-stop centre which will house all labour-related government agencies will be established, in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s vision of governance reforms.

.

For a start, the centre will house the Labour Department, Industrial Relations Department, Workers Unions Affairs Department, Social Security Organisation, MYFutureJobs, Human Resources Development Corporation (HRD Corp) and TalentCorp.

Sim added that centres will first be set up in Penang, the Klang Valley and Johor Baru.

“The ministry will not compromise on efforts to uphold workers’ rights. We will protect our workers at all costs,” he said.

Sim also said that beginning this year, HRD Corp would allow employers to utilise their levies to employ fresh graduates.

It was estimated that over 10,000 workers from government and private agencies gathered at the national-level Labour Day Celebration.
