Prometheus was a clever Titan in Greek mythology, famous for being the champion of humankind by stealing fire from the gods and giving it to humanity, which spurred their civilization. His name means “forethought”. He was punished severely by Zeus for this act, chained to a rock where an eagle ate his ever-regenerating liver daily. Prometheus also tricked Zeus into accepting less favorable sacrifices, leading to further divine wrath and the creation of Pandora.
