The event highlighted the triumphs that brought freedom, independence, and prosperity to nations and peoples around the world.

The celebration marked a global-scale milestone, reaffirming values that shape the modern international order: peace, independence, sovereignty, equal cooperation, and shared development.

Speaking at the event, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and President of China, Xi Jinping, said the victory reflected the immense sacrifice of the Chinese people and the contribution of China to the defence of world peace, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

The Chinese President described the war as arduous and great, marking China’s first complete victory against foreign aggression in modern times.

Leaders and delegates from more than 26 countries, including Russia, Cuba, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Nepal, and ASEAN member states, attended the event alongside representatives from foreign political parties, the United Nations Secretary-General, and over 50,000 Chinese citizens.

A grand military parade of 45 formations was also organised to mark the anniversary.

The victory over fascism holds great historical significance for peace-loving people worldwide. It symbolises peace and freedom and reminds humanity of the devastating consequences of war.

For Laos, which has been deeply affected by war, participation in the ceremony underscored the government’s consistent policy of fostering international cooperation to promote peace and development, while contributing to regional and global security and raising awareness about the dangers of war.

President Thongloun’s visit also strengthened Laos-China relations, in line with the “Four Goods” principle (good neighbours, friends, comrades and partners), and furthered the creation of a China-Laos Community with a Shared Future, delivering practical benefits to the people of both nations.
