MANILA, Philippines — The declared wealth of both President Marcos and Vice President Sara Duterte had steadily increased in the past three years since they assumed office, based on their statements of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALNs) from 2022 to 2024, copies of which were obtained by The STAR from the Office of the Ombudsman.
Marcos jointly declared with his wife, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, a net worth of P389.357 million as of Dec. 31, 2024, higher by P60.127 million from their joint net worth of P329.229 million as June 30, 2022 when Marcos assumed the presidency. Net worth is computed by subtracting total liabilities from total assets.

Based on Marcos’ entry SALN filed with the ombudsman on July 26, 2022, he and his wife had P329.229 million in total assets as of June 30, 2022 composed of P50.265 million in real properties and P278.963 million in personal properties, which included cash on hand and in bank, money market investments, jewelry, motor vehicles and paintings. They declared no liabilities.
In six months, the Marcos spouses’ net worth increased by P42.262 million or to P371.492 million as of Dec. 31, 2022, comprising P56.265 million in real properties and P315.226 million in personal properties.

The spouses’ SALN for that year showed that the increase could be attributed to a newly built residential house in La Union worth P6 million and higher cash on hand and in bank amounting to P35 million as of end of 2022, from P23 million as of June 30, 2022, as well as money market investments of P219.342 million as of end of 2022 from P211 million as of June 30, 2022.
Their assets also included jewelry, motor vehicles and paintings totaling P60.883 million as of end of 2022, from P44.963 million as of June 30, 2022.
The spouses, again, declared zero liabilities.
The Marcos spouses’ net worth continued to grow year-on-year to P381.447 million as of end of 2023, composed of P142.025 million in real properties and P239.421 million in personal properties which included P38-million cash on hand/bank, P129.342 million in money market investments and P72.078 million in jewelry, motor vehicles and paintings.

The couple also acquired an P80.5-million 1164.37 sqm house in La Union in December 2022.
They also purchased three agricultural lots in Barangay Calayab, Laoag City in August 2023, one measuring 389 square meters acquired for P92,767.03; another measuring 700 sqm purchased for P166,932.97 and another measuring 5,741 sqm for P11 million.
The spouses also declared an inherited residential house in Ilocos Norte, measuring 162.90 sqm with current fair market value of P253,716.75. They had zero liabilities for 2023, based on their SALN.
In 2024, the First Couple’s net worth grew to P389.357 million. This was attributed to the slight increase in the value of their personal properties amounting to P247.332 million.
They reported P38.7-million cash on hand/bank, P134.192 million in money market investments and P74.439 million in jewelry, motor vehicles and paintings.
The value of their real properties remained at P142.025 million as of Dec. 31, 2024.
Duterte’s SALNs

Meanwhile, Duterte declared a net worth of P88.512 million as of Dec. 31, 2024, P17.435 million higher than her declared net worth of P71.058 million in her entry SALN as of June 30, 2022.
There was just a slight increase in Duterte’s net worth six months after she assumed the vice presidency, to P71.658 million as of Dec. 31, 2022, composed of P50.958 million in real properties and P23.849 million in personal properties, which included mostly motor vehicles and personal items.

Nonetheless, eight residential properties, two vehicles and “shares in business and various items” declared by Duterte in her SALN were under the name of her husband.
Duterte’s declared liabilities as of Dec. 31, 2022 amounting to P3.150 million in personal loan, were also in her husband’s name.
The Vice President’s net worth grew to P77.508 million as of end of 2023, comprising P54.808 million in real properties and P25.249 million in personal properties – less P2.55 million in personal loan as liabilities – still under the name of her husband.
Her net worth grew by P11 million the following year to P88.512 million as of Dec.31, 2024 composed of P66.808 million in real properties and P31.653 million in personal properties, less total liabilities amounting to P9.95 million under the name of her husband, comprising loans from “various creditors” and from a bank.

Duterte’s 2024 SALN showed that the increase in her net worth as of year-end was due to her purchase of three residential lots in Davao City in 2023 and 2024 – one acquired for P1 million with a current fair market value of P2.051 million, another for P2 million with a fair market value of P3.636 million and another one acquired for P2 million with a current fair market value of P3.998 million.
