Team catches 4.5-metre croc in Bako
KUCHING: Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s (SFC) Swift Wildlife Action Team (SWAT) caught a 4.5-metre long adult female crocodile in Bako yesterday following reports from locals worried about their safety.
SWAT member Wan Mazlan Wan Mazian, who caught the reptile, said there could be more crocodiles in Bako and advised locals as well as tourists to take extra care.
“So far I have captured more than 10 crocodiles in Sungai Serait, Bako including one this morning (yesterday).
“We believe there are still more crocodiles in this river and we would like to remind those going to the village or to Bako National Park, to be more careful when taking this river route.
“The crocodiles are often sighted resting on the riverbank and this has caused fear and anxiety, moreover since the river is used as main route to go to Bako National Park,” he said in a press release.
He pointed out that SFC’s SWAT would only hunt for crocodiles after receiving complaints or reports from the public.
The crocodile caught yesterday would be sent to the Matang Wildlife Centre.
