BAGUIO CITY: President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday told graduates of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) to do what is necessary, even sacrifice their lives, if internal or external forces threaten to destroy the country.
“Serve your country well. Die for your country if it need be,” Duterte told the graduating PMA Mabalasik class of 2019. Mabalasik stands for “Mandirigma ng Bayan, Lakas at Sarili Iaalay para sa Kapayapaan.”“Remember the young Filipinos yet to come, the children and those who are now studying. Do not forget that,” he added.
“And if you think that the country is not run the way it is and if it will destroy your country, you should know what to do. Do you understand me?”
Entering the military, Duterte said, was the “start of an even bigger challenge as you enter your chosen branch of service and assume leadership roles in our armed forces.”

He urged the 261 graduates to be humble, teachable, grateful and to also maintain ties forged in the academy.
“Our security is not anymore just about arms and equipment. At this time, complex and irrational state and nonstate actors may even pose danger to our country,” Duterte said in his speech.
