BRUNEI-Nine more recover from virus, zero new cases in Sultanate
Brunei Darussalam recorded no COVID-19 cases for two consecutive days.
This was shared by Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar at a press conference at the Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday.
“Alhamdulillah, by the grace of Allah the Almighty, the MoH would like to inform the public that there are no new cases of COVID-19 infection in the country. The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Sultanate remains at 135,” said the minister. He also reminded that the spread of the COVID-19 infection has not ended.
“We must continue to abide by the precautionary measures to reduce the risk of spreading the infection,” Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said.
He said nine cases at the National Isolation Centre have recovered and were allowed to return home, bringing the number of people recovered to 82.
“This means 52 cases are still undergoing treatment at the National Isolation Centre. One of the three cases in critical condition and requiring respiratory assistance at the centre’s Intensive Care Unit has gradually recovered and no longer needs respiratory assistance. The patient is being monitored closely.
“Meanwhile, two patients are still in a critical condition with one requiring the assistance of a heart-lung machine (ECMO). The rest are in a stable condition.”
A total of 2,124 individuals have completed their quarantine in accordance with the Infectious Diseases Act (Chapter 204) while 237 individuals are still undergo quarantine.
The minister said, “A total of 305 individuals have completed the isolation period at facilities provided by the government and have been allowed to return home, bringing the total number to 628.
“Since early January, 8,261 laboratory tests for COVID-19 have been conducted, leading to a ratio of one in 53 individuals in the country tested for COVID-19,” he added.

According to healthinfo.gov.bn, the breakdown of cases shows 108 in the Brunei-Muara District, 23 in the Belait District and four in the Tutong District. There are no cases in the Temburong District.

JAKARTA- Indonesia announces biggest daily rise in cases, 24 doctors now dead
JAKARTA (REUTERS) – Indonesia announced its biggest daily increase in novel coronavirus cases on Monday (April 6) and a medical association said 24 doctors had now died after contracting the virus.
The rise in the death toll among doctors, which has doubled since last week, followed criticism of a lack of protective equipment in Indonesia.
The 218 new coronavirus cases took the number overall in Indonesia to 2,491. The 209 confirmed deaths among people who have contracted the virus is the highest number of fatalities in Asia outside China.
“The trend of (doctors dying) is heading for the sky,” said Halik Malik, a spokesman for the Indonesian Doctors Association which confirmed the doctors’ deaths from Covid-19, the respiratory disease caused by the new coronavirus.

MANILA, Philippines- DOH: 11 patients recover from COVID-19 as cases soar to 3,764
MANILA, Philippines — Eleven more COVID-19 positive persons have recovered from the illness, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Tuesday. It is the highest recorded recoveries in a day since the first case was documented in the country in January.
This raised the total number of recoveries to 84 although DOH also verified 104 additional cases of COVID-19 in the country, boosting the tally to 3,764 as of April 7.
On the other hand, DOH said 14 people infected with the respiratory illness have died with the toll now reaching 177.
The number of COVID-19 cases worldwide climbed to 1.3 million on Tuesday, according to the Johns Hopkins University coronavirus board, with the United States of America posting the most number of cases at 368,449, followed by Spain at 136,675.
Italy recorded the most number of death related to COVID-19 with16,523 fatalities, followed by Spain with 13,341 deaths.
Meanwhile, Malaysia has the most number of recoveries at 1,241, followed by Australia at 1,080.
These figures are a far cry from the Philippines’ recorded number of recoveries.
DOH confirmed the Philippines’ first COVID-19 case on January 30, while it was on March 7 when the first local transmission of the disease was proved.
The entire island of Luzon was placed on enhanced community quarantine in a bid to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. Initially, the strict quarantine was to take effect until midnight of April 13 but it was extended by the government on Tuesday until April 30.

SINGAPORE- 66 new cases, 2 new clusters at Little Gems Preschool and Kranji Lodge workers’ dormitory
SINGAPORE – Singapore reported 66 cases of Covid-19 on Monday (April 6), along with two new clusters, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in its daily update.
Of the total, 65 are local cases and one is imported, which means the patient was infected while overseas. They bring the total number of cases here to 1,375.
Among the local cases, links to existing clusters have been established for 35 cases, of which 24 are linked to clusters at foreign worker dormitories and 11 are linked to non-dormitory clusters.
There are 454 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 who are isolated and cared for at Concord International Hospital, Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Gleneagles Hospital and the Community Isolation Facility at D’Resort NTUC.
