Minister warns against mass gathering
Regarding the recent arrest of 20 partygoers at a hotel, Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said that mass gatherings should be avoided while the nation is still coping with the COVID-19 outbreak. “Such gatherings are highly prohibited, given the close proximity of 20 people in the confined space of a hotel room, involving alcoholic beverages,” he said during a press conference at the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) Al-‘Afiah Hall.

Politics on hold as focus shifts to dealing with pandemic
PETALING JAYA: The Covid-19 outbreak that has affected thousands worldwide and killed dozens in Malaysia has put politicking on the back burner.
For a start the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, which was ousted just before the outbreak, has decided to play it cool for now.
Plans to call for a no-confidence motion against current Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been put on ice.
As analysts see it, this is to be expected. It will be repugnant of PH to try to regain power at a time when the country is in crisis.

Universiti Malaya socio-political analyst Assoc Prof Dr Awang Azman Awang Pawi agreed that Covid-19 has been a blessing in disguise for PN.
“It is acting as a ‘shield’ to protect the government from public criticism,” he said.

Parents struggle to juggle working from home and supervising kids’ home-based learning amid Covid-19 crisis
SINGAPORE – Supervising their children’s learning from home while working from home is a struggle for many parents as Singapore starts full home-based learning on Wednesday (April 8) to help stem the spread of Covid-19.
Some, like Ms Michele Tan, had to wake up at 7am to do her work so that she could focus on helping her Primary 3 daughter with her lessons from 9.30 am.

Some of her friends FaceTime each other to do their work together, she added.
“There was one question in my English Literature assignment on SLS that I didn’t know how to do, but I was able to directly WhatsApp the teacher. She took about 20 minutes to reply, which was a bit slow. But she teaches the subject for all classes at my level , so I understand.”
