MANILA, Philippines — The number of coronavirus disease cases in the country hit 63,001 as the Department of Health recorded 1,841 new cases on Thursday.
Of the new cases, 710 were labeled as “fresh cases,” or those whose results were validated and released within three days, while 1,131 were tagged as “late” cases.
From the total count of COVID-19 patients in the country, 39,593 are considered “active.”
The number of recoveries likewise rose to 21,748 with 311 new recoveries while the death toll reached 1,660 with 17 more patients succumbing to the disease.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier approved new quarantine classifications during the coronavirus pandemic that would be effective across the country from July 16 to 31.
Metro Manila, which remains to be the epicenter of the pandemic, will remain under general enhanced community until July 31, considering the continuous increase in COVID-19 cases in the country.
