HEADLINE – COVID-19 VACCINE: JAKARTA, Indonesia- Ten Million Indonesians Have Received Covid-19 Vaccine
Jakarta. More than 10 million people in Indonesia have received at least one shot of Covid-19 vaccine with more than half already fully vaccinated, government figures show.
The country has administered 15.5 million doses of the vaccine as of Monday, mostly supplied by China’s Sinovac Biotech which collaborates with state-owned pharmaceutical company Bio Farma for local production under license.
A total of 10.26 million citizens have received the vaccine and 5.3 million of them already got double doses, according to Health Ministry data.
The current number of people with at least one shot of the vaccine represents 5.7 percent of the overall number of people targeted in the national inoculation drive.
Indonesia also uses UK’s AstraZeneca vaccine after receiving 1.1 million doses through UN-backed global supply scheme Covax on March 8.
There was a brief delay in AstraZeneca vaccine distribution due to reports of blood clots after it was administered in several European countries.
Health Ministry spokeswoman Siti Nadia Tarmizi said on Monday there was no major issue related to AstraZeneca vaccine.
“We haven’t received reports of blood clots related to AstraZeneca vaccine since it was first administered here,” Siti said in Jakarta.
“At the meantime we will continue administering this vaccine, which is also being used in many other countries.”
