The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is optimistic about the growth of the Lao economy amid the Covid-19 crisis and lockdown measures imposed to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.
According to the ADB’s Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2021, which was unveiled on Wednesday, the Lao economy is projected to grow at 4.0 percent in 2021 and 4.5 percent in 2022.
The projection is based on improved agricultural production and sustained power generation, which will offset a slow recovery in services amid the pandemic.

Brunei imposes travel suspension to and from India
With the consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Prime Minister’s Office has informed the public on the temporary suspension of approvals on the entry for foreign nationals departing from or through the Republic of India and exit-country approvals to India from yesterday until May 24.
This is following the ongoing situation of COVID-19 in the Republic of India where a new variant or strain of the virus was found to be more contagious and has led to the rapid spread of infection in the republic.

AstraZeneca to be offered at designated PPVs — Khairy (Updated)
PUTRAJAYA: The government will start to administer AstraZeneca vaccine at specially designated vaccination centres (PPVs) soon, and the public can opt for it, said National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.
He said registration for the AstraZeneca vaccine shots would be on a first-come-first-served basis and is voluntary.

MANILA, Philippines — Some 500,000 more doses of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine CoronaVac arrived in the country on Thursday morning, completing the 1.5 million doses for delivery this April.
The vaccines arrived via commercial plane Cebu Pacific at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport 2, the National Task Force against COVID-19 said in a statement. This batch is part of the government-purchased vaccine from Sinovac, a China-based company.

AstraZeneca’s plan to produce its Covid-19 vaccine in Thailand has made significant progress and the first batch of vaccines will be ready for delivery to the government by June.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Siam Bioscience as a manufacturing facility for AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine. The company, together with Siam Bioscience, has been working tirelessly to ensure that the facility is on track to safely deliver supply to support the national vaccination campaign. The collaboration with the Thai government and the FDA has facilitated the swift but careful progress with the manufacturing plant over the past few months, according to a statement issued by AstraZeneca (Thailand) Ltd on Wednesday.
