Sony unveiled a slew of new updates and upcoming titles for its PlayStation consoles with its latest State of Play digital showcase on July 8.
First up was upcoming PlayStation VR game Moss: Book II, a sequel to the well-reviewed 2018 title Moss. Currently in development by Polyarc, Moss: Book II continues the story of a mouse named Quill following the successful rescue of her uncle Argus.
.
According to Polyarc, “Your adventure continues with the revelation that a winged tyrant leading the Arcane forces has turned its focus on Quill and is now on the hunt for her within the hexed castle where her uncle was held captive.
“Lined with dangerous terrain, challenging puzzles, and enemies twisted in fire and steel, Quill’s journey will be trying – filled with triumph and heartbreak alike – but new allies, old friends, and the very nature of the castle itself can help as she works to save the world from a great unmaking.”
Next was Arcadegeddon, which is described as an “ever-evolving cooperative multiplayer shooter” from publisher IllFonic.
Playing solo or with up to three friends, Arcadegeddon sees players tasked with saving a beloved arcade, completing challenges to earn street cred, fighting savage enemies in dynamic hordes and conquering ever-changing stages in unique biomes. Players can also battle their friends mid-run in PVP challenges for bonus loot, customise their look and collect loot.

The full game is set to launch in 2022, while early access is available now on PS5.

Tribes of Midgard arrives on the PS5 and PS4 on July 27.
Developed by Norsfell Games, Tribes of Midgard is a 10-player survival-action roleplaying game where you play as an Einherjar, “a legendary Viking warrior revived by Odin himself to stop Ragnarok.
“The game features two primary modes – the session-based Saga Mode and endless Survival Mode – that are about exploring Midgard, powering up your character and fortifying your home village to stand against giants bent on destroying the Seed of Yggdrasil.”
The title will have eight different classes to unlock and choose from, as well as seasonal updates that change the way you play and add challenges for your tribe to overcome. The game launches with season one, The Wolf Saga.
Also shown was developer Ti Games’ action-exploration game FIST: Forged in Shadow Torch which will be making its way to PS5 and PS4 on September 27.
According to the game’s description on the PlayStation Store, “After the animals of Torch City were defeated by the invading Robotic Legion in the Resistance War six years ago, former Resistance fighter Rayton the rabbit has kept a low profile. The arrest of a friend meant he had no choice but to put on his giant metal fist and fight against those oppressing him. Little did he know that he would soon be caught up in a maelstrom of conspiracies involving the Legion, the Resistance, and the Rat Gang.”

Hunter’s Arena: Legends was next in the showcase. Developed by Matisco and seen as a mix of fighting games and battle royale, Hunter’s Arena is set in a mystical world where players become hunters who must fight deadly demons as well as other online players to survive. The game features two battle royale modes: solo and trio.
“As a skilfull hunter you will master powerful swordplay and martial arts and will be constantly tested of your skills of precise timing and fast decision making,” it was shared. “As you explore our expansive maps, you will be able to explore dungeons and slay ancient demons to level up.”
Hunter’s Arena: Legends arrives on PS5 and PS4 next month, and PlayStation Plus members will be able to download the versions for both consoles at no extra cost from August 3 to September 6.
Developer Sloclap’s upcoming third-person action game Sifu was then shown. Set to release in early 2022, the title features intense hand-to-hand combat and puts the player in control of a young Kung-Fu student on a path of revenge.
The State of Play’s spotlight then landed on Jett: The Far Shore, a game releasing on PS5 and PS4 this year, created by Superbrothers and Pine Scented, with a score by composer and sound designer SCNTFC.
As was shared during the showcase, “In Jett, you play as Mei, one of a unit of aviator scientists who embarks on an interstellar trip and alight on a mythic ocean planet where they dream of securing a future for their species.

.
“Jett’s premise involves exploration and discovery. However, our design doesn’t rely on combat or resource extraction, and the characters go to some lengths to tread lightly, giving indigenous wildlife a wide berth, striving to adapt and avoid conflict.
“As a Jett Scout you’ll inspect living things and employ your Jett’s tools to figure out what makes them tick. Occasionally, you’ll run into trouble, and you’ll have to use everything at your disposal to emerge unscathed.”
The State of Play then continued with segment on two upcoming adventures from publisher Sega – Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles and Lost Judgment.
Launching on PS5 and PS4 on October 15, Demon Slayer – Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is an action game based on the anime Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. The title sees players “take up the sword as a demon slayer named Tanjiro Kamado who is on a journey to avenge his murdered family and restore his sister – who was transformed into a demon – back to human form, and defeat the demons that threaten humanity”.
Meanwhile, Lost Judgment launches on PS5 and PS4 on September 24, 2021. A sequel to the action adventure game Judgment released worldwide in June 2019, Lost Judgment “weaves noir narrative and action-packed investigations into a mystery thriller” and sees players take control of street-fighting detective Takayuki Yagami.
The showcase then shifted its focus to Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, which is coming to PS5 on September 24. Created by Kojima Productions under renowned game director Hideo Kojima, Death Stranding first released on PS4 in November 2019, and saw players assume the role of Sam Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, who is tasked with delivering supplies to fractured and isolated colonies and reconnecting them.
The Director’s Cut is a remastered version for the PS5, and features advanced combat, a new competitive ranking system, expanded content in the form of additional weapons and vehicles, new enemies, new locations, extra missions and minigames as well as an extended storyline in an expanded area.
The final part of of the State of Play was deep dive into some extended gameplay for Deathloop, a first-person shooter from Bethesda and Arkane Lyon set for release on PS5 on September 14.
As described on the PlayStation Store, “In Deathloop, two rival assassins are trapped in a mysterious timeloop on the island of Blackreef, doomed to repeat the same day for eternity. As Colt, the only chance for escape is to end the cycle by assassinating eight key targets before the day resets. Learn from each cycle – try new paths, gather intel, and find new weapons and abilities. Do whatever it takes to break the loop.”
