14th China-ASEAN EXPO (CAEXPO) : Myanmar tea in demand at China-ASEAN Expo
“Demand is very high and we already sold many. I think everything will be sold out on the last day. I hope for the best,” said Ko Wai Phyo Maung, manager of the Tea Art Company Ltd at the CAEXPO in Nanning, South China, which is held from September 12 to 15.
“It is really nice, the taste is nutty yet not too salty. I like it,” said a Chinese guest.
About 400 Myanmar traders are participating in the expo, selling the country’s most esteemed goods – jade, amber, lacquered utensils, teas and traditional food.
Commodities from all over ASEAN were on sale, as well as goods from Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, Egypt, Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
“China and ASEAN merchants have good relations. They discuss about their businesses, which is very beneficial to Myanmar traders. Many sellers are really interested in joining the expo. Many tea associations participated,” U Than Myint, Union Minister for the Ministry of Commerce said.
Since 2004, the CAEXPO is held annually in Nanning, South China.
It is organised by the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and co-sponsored by the ministries of Commerce or Trade and Industry of China and the 10 ASEAN member countries, as well as the ASEAN Secretariat.
