The long awaited fight between an American-made machine and a Japanese “mecha” finally has a date. This match will also be streamed live on the internet.

American company MegaBots Inc. announced the battle on its Twitter account. It included the time, date and online channels where the fight can be watched. The stream will go live on Twitch at 7 p.m. Pacific Standard Time, Oct. 17 (10 a.m., Oct. 18 in Manila).

While MegaBots had been actively tweeting about its machine’s progress, Suibodashi Heavy Industries the Japanese side of the competition, has been somewhat quiet on its modifications.

The last time Suibodashi uploaded anything about their Kuratas robot was a YouTube video in 2015. It was a video to accept the challenge from the Americans.

MegaBots first issued the giant robot challenge in June 2015. The event went through numerous delays due to venue issues, but it appears the fight will finally push through this time.

The actual rules have not yet been revealed but the duel will possibly be a close quarters combat. Will the Americans succeed with their challenge, or will the Japanese continue to hold their head high as the center of giant robot culture? JB
