VOX POPULI: Bandar Seri Begawan- Why not backdate pension to age 55?

MANY people in the private sector and government sector retire at the age of 55. The majority of them are not entitled to life pensions.

Their employment provident fund (EPF/TAP) cannot be claimed until the age of 60. So what do they do from 55 to 60 years old? It is a big struggle for them to survive for next five years until they can claim something.

The old age pensions should start from age 55 for all citizens and permanent residents.

For foreigners working in the public and private sector who have worked here for 20 years or more they should be entitled to claim BND100 per month. This is to reward their loyalty, long service and contribution to the country.
