MANILA, Philippines – IBF super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas turned in an impressive performance on US soil, knocking down Mexico’s Israel Gonzalez three times en route to a one-sided 10th round TKO victory at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas Sunday.

In a fine showing of boxing skill, Ancajas dominated the game Gonzalez from the get-go, flooring his foe in the opening round with a counter left straight to the head. He spent the rest of the bout peppering the challenger with jabs while moving away from trouble.

In the 10th round and way ahead of the scorecards, Ancajas decked Gonzalez with another left straight to the head. The Mexico City-based fighter beat the count, but he ate a looping left from Ancajas just seconds later to hit the canvas again, prompting the referee to stop the bout.

It was a methodical performance from Anjacas, who is riding the momentum of equally impressive knockout victories over Teiru Kinoshita and Jamie Conlan last year. He entered Sunday’s bout with a clear goal of putting on a show in the US for the first time.

The title defense against Gonzalez was the first of Ancajas’ three-fight deal with Top Rank.

And the 26-year-old rising star definitely delivered, raising his record to 29-1-1, with 20 KOs.
