Jakarta. Four men have died after a crane collapsed on a railway track under construction in Jatinegara, East Jakarta, on Saturday morning (04/02), officials have confirmed.
Another man was also injured in the incident.
Edi Kuswoyo, a spokesman for railway operator Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), told the Jakarta Globe the crane suddenly collapsed on a double-track railway being built between Manggarai and Jatinegara stations at 5.30 a.m.
“But both the commuter line and intercity trains have not been affected by the accident,” Edi said.
A spokeswoman from the Transportation Ministry’s railways directorate general, Joyce Hutajulu, told the Globe an investigation is already under way to find the cause of the accident.
The double-track railway is being built for intercity trains and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
