Jakarta. Deva Anrimusthi, Hary Susanto, Hafizh Briliansyah and Fredy Setiawan won Indonesia’s first gold medal at the 2018 Asian Para Games by defeating Malaysia 2-1 in the badminton men’s team standing competition on Sunday (07/10).

The final match, which took place at the iconic Istora Senayan in Jakarta’s Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, began with Fredy defeating Muhammad Norhilmie Mohd, 21-6, 21-12.

Malaysia won the second match, when doubles players Cheah Liek Hou and Hairul Fozi Saaba defeated Hafizh and Hary, 21-10, 21-17.

However, Deva secured victory for Indonesia by winning the third match against Mohammad Faris Ahmad Azri, 21-6, 21-12.

India and Thailand meanwhile shared the bronze medal in the event.

The National Paralympic Committee said the government has set a target of 18 gold medals in the international multisport event, which began with an inspirational opening ceremony on Saturday evening.

The Indonesian team competing in this year’s Asian Para Games comprises 296 athletes.

In the 2018 Asian Games, which took place between Aug. 18 and Sept. 2, Indonesia secured 31 gold, 24 silver and 43 bronze medals, placing it fourth in the final medal count. It was Indonesia’s best achievement yet in the games, which is also the world’s second-largest multisport event.
