A FOREIGN student faces deportation after she threw her soy pudding at a policeman  in one of the stations of the Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) where she refused to give up her drink during a routine security check, the head of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Sunday.

Police Director Guillermo Eleazar said the NCRPO would be recommending that Jiale Zhang, 23, identified as sa Chinese, be declared an “undesirable alien” and deported following the incident on Saturday with Police Officer 1 William Cristobal at the Boni Station in Mandaluyong City.

Eleazar also commended PO 1 William Cristobal for displaying the “highest standard of state of discipline in managing the incident.”

Eleazar said the action that would be taken against Zhang would also apply to others who would do the same to any police officer.

“We in the Philippines, we have policies here, when we are in other countries, we also follow their existing rules and law,” he said in a statement.

Zhang’s actions also showed disrespect toward the policeman, who was only enforcing the MRT management and the Department of Transportation’s (DoTr) order to ban all food and drinks upon entrance to the train platform, according to the Metro Manila police chief.

“On the part of the NCRPO, we are just recommending proactive and precautionary measures based on the specific guidelines, it’s up to the agency concerned, the DoTr, MRT and LRT (Light Rail Transit) managements, to include all [restrictions and] exemptions,” Eleazar said.

“Maybe upon assessment and study, they will consider our recommendation. That is why they released a circular to implement this,” he added.

The transportation sector, particularly the LRT and MRT, banned all liquid forms that passengers tend to carry after the MRT received a bomb threat early last month and the twin explosions at a Catholic church in Jolo, Sulu. DEMPSEY REYES
