Comelec says Smartmatic ban to be given ‘serious consideration’

The results of the May 13 midterm elections — where government-backed candidates trounced the opposition — remain credible despite President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to remove any “whiff of fraud” via the junking of technology provider Smartmatic, Malacañang said on Friday.

A day earlier, Duterte had told a gathering of Filipinos in Japan that he wanted the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to “dispose of” the Venezuelan firm’s services given allegations of cheating during the last two elections.
