I. Fruit discoloration makes those delicious apple slices look unfresh. If you want to retain the healthy color of fruit once you have cut it open, squeeze a little bit of lemon juice onto it. Another good alternative is to soak it in a mixture of honey and water. The oxidation process, which is responsible for the discoloration, can be prevented by combining the citric acid and vitamin C of the lemon juice with the peptides of the honey.

II. If you want your bananas to stay fresher longer, then take some plastic wrap and use it to cover the end of the bunch. You may also separate each banana and wrap its end individually. What this does is it blocks ethylene gases from exiting the stem, which causes the fruit to ripen quicker.

III. If you don’t want to waste tomatoes, prevent them from rotting quickly by storing them stem end down. Doing so will prevent air from entering the tomato’s scar, and will prevent moisture from exiting it as well. It is also better to store tomatoes at room temperature instead of placing them in the fridge.
