Savannakhet Province, Laos- Govt, World Vision strive to improve lives of Lao children
Minister to the Prime Minister’s Office and Vice President of the National Commission for the Advancement of Women, Mothers and Children, Mr Alounkeo Kittikhoun, and World Vision’s Country Programme Director, Roslyn Gabriel, last week visited World Vision projects in Savannakhet province.
The projects focus on education, nutrition, water and sanitation, livelihoods, and child protection and participation.
Mr Alounkeo met local leaders to discuss the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

He also met children and community members who are supported by World Vision and their government counterparts.

“I am very touched by what I saw from the children’s skit on protection and the wellbeing of children and also happy to see awareness-raising among the local community on the issue of child rights,” Mr Alounkeo said.
He said the government was very serious about the realisation of the Convention and he much appreciated the achievements of World Vision along with the community members of Ban Beung.

He encouraged communities to be accountable for all the activities towards sustainable development, saying that the government has made significant progress towards its commitment to the Convention.
International non-governmental organisations, including United Nations agencies, have an important role to play in supporting efforts to make this work happen, he added.

Mr Alounkeo thanked the local government leadership and World Vision International Lao PDR for their excellent development work in Ban Beung and said he would remember the village and would visit it again if possible.
Ms Roslyn Gabriel said “This visit highlights the achievements that can be made through close working relationships between World Vision and the government towards achieving life in all its fullness for children.”
World Vision, which has been operating in Laos since 1968, has the strategic goal to improve the well-being of vulnerable Lao children and the life quality of their households and communities.
