A Jean Marie Privat Mbarga double and a goal apiece from Hoy Phallin and Soeuy Visal led Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng to a famous 4-2 win over Ministry of National Defense on Sunday evening ensuring the club their first C-League title since 2013.

With the firepower provided up-front by 30-goal Cameroonian hotshot striker Mbarga, the Army defenders were unable to stop a second half barrage as Svay Rieng fired four past the keeper to claim the victory – and the league title at the Svay Rieng Stadium.

The win put the provincial side eight points clear of nearest challengers Visakha to deliver a much coveted 2019 C-League title.

Reacting after the game, Jonny Campbell, the club’s dependable American defender was ecstatic.

“24 games unbeaten and Champions of the Metfone Cambodian League with 2 games left to play, reads the post.

“So proud of everyone at our club. The goal still remains to stay unbeaten after 26 matches, so 2 more remaining to complete that goal. Thank you to all our supporters and everyone.”

Led by Irishman Conor Nestor, Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng remain undefeated this season, a remarkable achievement which has led them to the summit of the league table. The influence of Hoy Phallin, defensive-acumen of US-born Campbell and Cambodia captain Visal, creative genius of Prak Mony Udom, and a lethal eye for goal from Mbarga has seen the provincial side rack up an enviable tally of 62 points from 24 games – 19 wins, 5 draws and 0 losses.

In other Sunday action, former champions Boeung Ket registered a 3-2 home win over National Police, while Visakha recorded a 5-1 thumping of Asia Europe United at the AEU Sport Park.

In Siem Reap, Soltilo Angkor hit four for a 4-1 win over lowly league whipping boys Kampong Cham.

NagaWorld, 2018 champions, were 5-0 victors over Bati Academy U18s.
