COVID-19 PANDEMIC: Two more Myanmar returnees test positive, total cases at 203

Two Myanmar citizens who returned from overseas have tested positive for COVID-19, according to the health ministry at 8pm on May 25. Meanwhile, one patient is on the road to recovery.

The number of total cases is now at 203, including six deaths and 123 recoveries.

The latest confirmed patien is a 39-year-old man from Ahlone township in Yangon Region who returned from Italy. The man was undergoing community-based facility quarantine at a center in Hlaing township when he tested positive. He has been admitted to Wai Bar Gi Specialist Hospital for treatment.

The second infected patient is also a returnee. She is 41-year-old woman living in Pyinmana township in Nay Pyi Taw. The woman returned from India and was undergoing community-based facility quarantine in North Dagon township when she tested positive. She is also receiving treatment at Wai Bar Gi Hospital.

From May 16 to May 23 at 7 am, a total of eleven returnees from Malaysia have tested positive upon returning to Myanmar. Three are from Chin State one from Yangon Region, one from Tanintharyi Region, two from Kayin State, two from Rakhine State, one from Magway Region and one from Ayeyarwady Region.

Moreover, a total of eight returnees from United Arab Emirates have also been tested positive for the virus with seven from Yangon and one from Shan State.

All returnees who have tested positive are those who have went into quarantine upon arrival to Myanmar.

The person on the road to recovery is a 35-year-old man, Case-134, from Tarmwe township, Yangon. The man was confirmed infected on April 24 and his test results have returned negative twice. He was infected from COVID-19 patients who are workers from Pan Pacific Hotel and Park Royal Hotel.

From January 31 to May 25 at 12:30pm, the government tested 19,552 people for the disease, according to data from the health ministry.

Yangon now accounts for 158 of all COVID-19 cases in the country. Seventy-one out of the 158 cases in Yangon were traced to a religious ceremony in Insein township, including that of famous Myanmar rock star Myo Gyi. Among 158 cases in Yangon, Insein township is highest with 49 cases.

So far, Kayah State is the only region in Myanmar without any reported cases.
