MANILA, Philippines — The number of COVID-19 cases in the country has topped the 82,000 mark, with still four days before the end of the month of July.
The Department of Health (DOH) COVID-19 bulletin on Monday said that over 1,657 new cases were reported, bringing the total number of cases to 82,040, with 1,017 of the new cases coming from the National Capital Region.
At least 89 came from Laguna, 38 from Cavite province, 31 from Cebu province, and 31 from Rizal.
DOH clarified that 65 cases were subtracted from the latest toll due to duplication.
Aside from that, 16 new deaths were reported, which means that the country now has 1,945 deaths due to the pandemic, while 359 new recoveries places the total at 26,446.
The DOH’s latest numbers — 82,040 cases and 1,945 deaths — nears the predictions made by the University of the Philippines’ COVID-19 response team, which pictured 85,000 cases and 2,000 deaths by the end of July. -By: Gabriel Pabico Lalu – Reporter – INQUIRER.net
