Sick Earth-Plague Day 319
Jakarta. Riau and West Sumatra have emerged with the highest growth in daily number of coronavirus cases apart from four most-populous provinces in Java since the beginning of the month, with an average of just above 200 cases.
Riau overtook Bali as the ninth province with the biggest number of cases on Tuesday, a day after it became the tenth province to pass the 10,000 mark.
The province in the central region of Sumatra has a total of 10,343 cases, in comparison to Bali’s 10,304. Even worse, Riau has 3,771 active cases of the virus, almost four times the number in Bali.
West Sumatra has added 2,771 cases in the last 13 days, taking its total to 9,052. It has the fifth-biggest number of active cases — totaling 3,789 — after Jakarta, West Java, Central Java and East Java.
The trend in newly cases is almost identical between Riau and West Sumatra, with an average of 209 and 213, respectively.
Top Four
Jakarta has recorded 1,054 new cases in the last 24 hours to take its total to 89,228, including 1,933 deaths. The capital has added around 15,500 cases month-to-date.
East Java is the only province in the top four who reported a slower growth, with an average of 296 cases month-to-date, as opposed to 340 in September. It has a total of 47,595 cases, including 3,468 deaths, the highest death toll nationwide.
Combined cases from Jakarta and East Java make up 40 percent of the national tally.
West Java has been averaging 452 cases since Oct. 1, bringing its total number of confirmed cases to 28,087. The country’s most populous province has doubled its total caseloads last month and the surge continued with a higher daily average in comparison to 371 in September.
But West Java has the lowest death toll among the top four provinces, totaling 539 as of Tuesday.
Central Java reported 466 new cases, the highest daily number in more than a month, for a total to 27,106, including 1,522 deaths.
Record Number in Recoveries
Overall, the country has recorded 3,906 cases to take its total to 340,622. Daily death toll has been staying within the two-digit territory for the fifth day in a row. Indonesia has recorded a total of 12,027 Covid-19 deaths, or 3.5 percent of total cases.
The number of cured or discharged Covid-19 patients hit a new high on Tuesday, with 4,777 for a total of 263,296 recoveries.
The previous highest single-day number of recovered patients was 4,510 on Sept. 30.
