Laos and Vietnam will continue their cooperation in education and human resource development, especially to help develop educational infrastructure in Laos. The Vietnamese government plans to provide 1,100 scholarships for Lao students and officials to study in Vietnam.
The governments of Laos and Vietnam will sign an agreement on the education cooperation strategy plan for 2021-2030 by the end of this year when the scholarships will be confirmed.
This was the message delivered at a meeting attended by a delegation from the Embassy of Vietnam to Laos.
The Vietnamese delegation met Deputy Minister of Education and Sports, Associate Prof. Dr Phouth Simmalavong, at the ministry in Vientiane last week.

According to the ministry, the scholarships will support students in various fields and will include bachelor degrees, higher courses, and short-term training courses.

Vietnam provides scholarships to Lao students and officials every year through various educational institutions and ministries.

In 2019, the Vietnamese government provided more than 1,200 scholarships for Lao students and officials to study in Vietnam in various fields, including politics and governance, national defence and public security, and science and technology.

The ministry’s Student Affairs Department reported that more than 7,000 Lao nationals studied in foreign countries in 2018 and more than 6,000 in 2019.
Some students received government-funded scholarships and exchange scholarships while some people paid for their own tuition.

Most Lao nationals took courses in China, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

Laos and Vietnam cooperate in the fields of science and technology, natural resources and the environment, telecommunications, labour, tourism, border development, economic relations, education, and human resource development.
