Jakarta. The total number of cured or discharged Covid-19 patients in Indonesia passed the 300,000 mark on Thursday, but the peak of new infections remains nowhere to be seen.

According to the latest Health Ministry data, 3,497 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 301,006 or 79.7 percent of the reported cases.

The country has recorded a total of 377,541 confirmed cases of the virus, including 12,959 deaths, since the outbreak. The total number of active cases stands at 63,576.

It has added more than 90,000 Covid cases since the beginning of the month, suggesting that the surge continues albeit at a slower pace.

However, newly cases of the virus have been trending down in the past week.

Slower Growth in Jakarta
Half of the ten worst-affected provinces have reported fewer cases compared to the previous week, including Jakarta that remains the only province to average four digits in daily numbers.

The capital registered 989 new cases for a total of 98,206, including 2,105 deaths. It has been averaging 1,112 cases since Oct. 1, down slightly from the September average of 1,122.

The weekly total in Jakarta is around 1,000 fewer than that of the previous week.

The total number of cases in East Java exceeded 50,000 after it added 268 more cases. It still has the highest death toll nationally, with a total of 3,619 coronavirus-related deaths.

East Java has been outpaced by Central and West Java since late last month and now has among the smallest number of active cases thanks to soaring recovery numbers.

For the first time since the outbreak, West Java reported the highest daily death toll, with 23 for a total of 639 deaths. The country’s most populous province has the third-biggest number of confirmed cases, totaling 32,643.

Newly infections are surging in West Java, which has added more than 10,000 cases month to date with an average of 474. By comparison, the province averaged 371 in September.

Central Java recorded 513 new cases, its second-highest daily rise, to take its total to 30,731. The province has among the biggest number of Covid fatalities, amounting to 1,630 deaths. It also saw an upward trend in newly cases this week.

Ups and Downs
The surge is slowing South Sulawesi — which has a total of 17,767 cases — South Kalimantan (11,535) and North Sumatra (12,297), all manage to keep daily average within two digits.

But that was eclipsed by a spike in Riau, East Kalimantan and West Sumatra.

Riau, which rose through the ranks from 18th to sixth in a span of 41 days, added 282 cases for a total of 12,601.

East Kalimantan has added 1,268 more cases in the past week for a total of 12,480. The weekly total is 259 more than the previous week.

West Sumatra has recorded 2,109 new cases in a week, the third biggest weekly rise after that of West and Central Java, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases to 11,875.
