A shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine totalling 50,400 doses arrived in Brunei Darussalam from Spain yesterday, with more on the way.
The arrival marks the first shipment of Moderna, out of the 200,000 doses procured by the Ministry of Health (MoH).
“The Brunei Darussalam Medicines Control Authority (BDMCA) has confirmed the safety and effectiveness of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, following a stringent scientific evaluation process by the National COVID-19 Vaccine Technical Committee,” said the MoH in a statement.
“The BDMCA has granted special authorisation to administer the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in Brunei Darussalam during a public health emergency or pandemic situation.
“As of June 2021, nearly more than 200 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine have been administered worldwide.

“Moderna COVID-19 vaccine will be offered to the citizens and residents of Brunei Darussalam in phases.”
The second phase of Brunei Darussalam’s COVID-19 vaccination programme begins today, focussing on teachers, childcare staff and adults at high-risk or suffering from chronic diseases.
The first phase of the vaccination is still ongoing, and will run concurrently with the second phase.
Potential recipients are advised to book vaccination slots through the BruHealth app.
According to MoH statistics, as of June 13, 66,972 individuals have already been vaccinated, with 44,729 in Brunei-Muara District, 8,835 in Tutong District, 9,093 in Belait District and 4,315 in Temburong District.
