Technology-Social Media: MANILA- Did Meta deactivate Pastor Quiboloy’s Facebook page?

The Facebook page of Apollo Quiboloy, the Executive Pastor of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, the Name above every Name, was inaccessible as of March 6, 2022. The Page had almost two-million followers when the account went missing on the social media platform.

The admins of Pastor Quiboloy’s Page ruled out hacking and said that Facebook suddenly deactivated the account without warning. The group said the Page had not violated any of the social media company’s community standards as they only post religious messages from the pastor.

The official Facebook Page of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy is now missing on the social media platform.

However, on its support page, Facebook says that in some cases, the company may not issue a warning before disabling accounts and that it can’t restore accounts that were disabled for severe violations of the Facebook community standards.

Facebook in the past has deactivated accounts that violated the company’s community standards and terms of use. The violations include posting content that doesn’t follow its conditions, using a fake name, impersonating someone, and contacting other people for harassment, advertising, promoting, or other conduct that’s not allowed. According to the admins, the account never did these prohibited activities by Facebook as it only shares ministerial posts from the executive pastor.

The Facebook help center explains that a page may be taken down for the following reasons:

1) Not all admins of the Page have authentic profiles. “Creating a second or duplicate profile goes against our Community Standards, even if you use your real Name. Make sure that all admins of your Page have authentic profiles used by real people.”

2) The Page has admins that went against Community Standards. “Facebook is a place where people connect with each other using their authentic identities. Profiles that don’t follow our Community Standards and those found in the Facebook Terms may be removed from Facebook. Make sure that you only add admins that you know and trust to manage your Page.

3) The Page has a misleading name. Facebook limits a Page’s ability to make a significant change to its Name that might cause people to feel misled.

4) The content posted on the Page goes against our hate speech policies: Hate speech isn’t allowed on Facebook because it creates an environment of intimidation and exclusion and in some cases, may promote real-world violence. “We define hate speech as a direct attack on people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, caste, sex, gender, gender identity, and disease or disability. Learn more about our hate speech policy.”

5) The Page has severely or repeatedly violated our Ads Policies. “Our Ads Policies provide guidance on what types of content is allowed in an ad. If you severely or repeatedly violate these policies, we may disable your ad account and take down your Page.”

One of the common reasons why a Facebook page is deactivated is when the Page owner deletes or deactivates the account that created the Page.

What to do if this happens to you?

When you deactivate your Facebook account, the pages that you created will also be deactivated. You need to reactivate your account first if you need your Page to be available again.

To do this, you need to have access to the email or phone number you used to log in to complete the reactivation of your account. Once your account is reactivated, you can now make your Facebook Page active again.
