(UPDATED) LEGAZPI CITY: Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon spewed a column of ash and steam about a kilometer high in the sky Sunday morning, raining ash on villages around it.

Paul Alanis, resident volcanologist of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in Bicol, told The Manila Times several volcanic earthquakes preceded the steam-driven eruption. Alanis said magmatic activity has not been detected inside the volcano that could lead to a major emission of lava.
