The government is preparing to chair the 57th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings, which will take place in Vientiane from July 21-27.
A meeting to discuss preparations for the event was held in Vientiane on Tuesday, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith.
Participants discussed the progress made with respect to the topics to be covered, meeting venues, and accommodation for ministers and their delegations, who are coming from more than 30 countries.
Mr Saleumxay urged the relevant authorities to ensure that all the details were finalised and all preparations were completed well in advance of the meeting.

The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, established under the Bangkok Declaration in 1967, is responsible for ASEAN’s political-security cooperation as well as ASEAN’s relations with external parties in ASEAN.
The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting convenes at least four times a year and may arrange special meetings as and when necessary to discuss issues that require immediate attention.
The meetings review ASEAN Community-building efforts, the direction of future plans, and ASEAN’s external relations.
