MYANMAR: Fresh fighting in northern Shan State displaces thousands
…
Clashes broke out again in Mongmit, the site of arson attacks and battles between the military and forces led by the Kachin Independence Army that reduced parts of the town to rubble earlier this year
Thousands were forced to flee their homes outside the town of Mongmit, northern Shan State fighting between the junta and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) resumed there on Tuesday.
Local civilians said that the battle broke out at around 6pm near Man Hpwei and Lel Gyi villages, approximately four miles east of Mongmit Township’s urban centre, and that the two sides fought fiercely for around an hour.
“The people fled from the villages. Fearing that there would be another battle in the town, half the town’s population fled again. The military forces are still there, so people don’t dare stay in the town,” a local civilian said.
On January 18 of this year, the Kachin Independence Army ( KIA) and its allies launched attacks on junta forces in Mongmit Township, which is adjacent to Mabein, Manton, Mongngawt, and Namhsan townships in northern Shan State and adjacent to. . .

ANN/THE STAR – Thailand’s Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin said on Friday that he has submitted his explanation to the Constitutional Court regarding the appointment of Phichit Chuenban as the Minister of the Prime Minister’s Office in tomorrow’s deadline submission.
Srettha mentioned that he personally signed the document on Thursday after a thorough discussion and review with the prime minister’s adviser Wissanu Krea-ngam, and other relevant parties.
Srettha declined to comment when asked how confident he was about the explanations he had provided, as the matter was sub-judice.
However, he confirmed that the explanation had fully addressed the allegations, and the document could be submitted within tomorrow’s deadline.
The charter court has sought an explanation from Srettha after the judges voted 6-3 to accept a petition by 40 outgoing senators seeking the removal of the prime minister from his post for violation of ethics in the appointment of Phichit.
The petition sought a ruling from the court on the status of the PM due to the appointment of Phichit, who was deemed to lack the necessary qualifications.
