As the international order grows increasingly fragmented and commitment to established cooperation framework wanes, President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia will not abandon its principles of choosing peace, friendship, and being a good citizen of the world.

I ndonesia remains committed to upholding international law and maintaining amicable relations with all countries, President Prabowo Subianto told world leaders in Davos, Switzerland, amid mounting scrutiny over Jakarta’s decision to join the United States-initiated Board of Peace.

As the global order grows increasingly fragmented and commitment to established cooperation framework wanes, Indonesia will not abandon its principle of choosing friendship and peace, the President asserted.

In an address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) on Thursday, Prabowo delivered his first speech at the forum, portraying Indonesia as a fast-growing, rule-abiding nation ready to cooperate with all willing partners on a win-win basis.

The former defense minister framed Indonesia’s foreign policy posture as one rooted in dialogue and cooperation, even as the global order becomes increasingly fragmented and trust in established multilateral mechanisms continues to erode.

“While the world has faced tightening financial conditions, trade tensions and political uncertainty, Indonesia continues to grow,” Prabowo said.

“Indonesia chooses peace over chaos

We want to be a friend to all, an enemy to none. […]

We want to be a good neighbor, a good responsible citizen of the world,” he continued.
