Indonesia’s Prabowo seeks to secure energy supplies in meeting with Putin
Indonesia is seeking to strengthen diplomatic channels with both the US and Russia. President Prabowo Subianto is in Moscow for talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, looking to lock down energy supplies amid uncertainties from the Middle East. Meanwhile, Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin is in Washington to meet his US counterpart Pete Hegseth. Meeting Putin for the second time in less than six months, Prabowo said ahead of closed-door talks that he intended to “personally supervise” key strategic cooperation with Moscow, highlighting the urgency of closer ties in an increasingly uncertain global climate.

P resident Prabowo Subianto on Monday met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Moscow to “consult” on navigating heightened geopolitical volatility, underscoring the need to bolster economic resilience and energy security amid continued disruptions to global supply chains.

Meeting Putin for the second time in less than six months, Prabowo said ahead of closed-door talks that he intended to “personally supervise” key strategic cooperation with Moscow, highlighting the urgency of closer ties in an increasingly uncertain global climate.

“I have come to consult with you, as the global geopolitical situation is evolving and changing very rapidly.
We view Russia as having played a very positive role in navigating these uncertain conditions,” Prabowo told Putin in a livestreamed exchange.

“We feel it is very necessary to consult on how to address future developments and, if possible, further strengthen cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy and energy,” he continued.

Putin, meanwhile, expressed his appreciation for Prabowo’s visit, describing Indonesia-Russia relations as well-maintained, “substantive” and “meaningful”……

He noted that bilateral economic ties between the two countries had seen a slight slowdown this year, but reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to reversing the trend by prioritizing key sectors.
