POLITICS-ELECTION: PETALING JAYA – GE14: DAP drops Tan Seng Giaw, Hannah Yeoh to contest Segambut parliament seat

DAP’s incumbent Kepong MP Dr Tan Seng Giaw has been dropped from the list of the party’s candidates for the 14th general election (GE14), said party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
At an election briefing with about 500 party members at the MBPJ Civic Hall today, Lim also said incumbent Subang Jaya assemblyman and Selangor speaker Hannah Yeoh will contest the Segambut parliamentary seat.
It is not known yet if Yeoh would be defending her state seat in Selangor.
Current Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng will be moved to Kepong to contest Tan’s seat.
DAP will be contesting all five Kuala Lumpur parliamentary seats it won in GE13 – Kepong, Segambut, Bukit Bintang, Seputeh and Cheras.
Fong Kui Lun, Teresa Kok and Tan Kok Wai will be defending their seats in Bukit Bintang, Seputeh and Cheras respectively.
The decision to drop Seng Giaw, 75, was expected as he had on various occasions gone against the party’s stand.
In June last year, Guan Eng claimed that Seng Giaw was incommunicado, raising questions on the status of the eight-term Kepong MP.
On another matter, Guan Eng said Pakatan Harapan would be able to continue with the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) despite its pledge to abolish the Goods and Services Tax (GST) if it forms the government.
Guan Eng added the reduced income for the country due to the abolition of GST would be covered by bringing back money lost by 1Malaysia Development Berhad overseas.
He said Pakatan Harapan would also save up enough allocations for BR1M payments.
“The money will be enough for us to pay for BR1M without having to rely on GST collection.”
