SENATOR Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on Thursday, February 20, ignored calls for him to resign over his statement expressing great loyalty to President Rodrigo Duterte,

“Sabihin mo who you? In the first place sino siya para mag-paresign sa akin? I was voted upon by 19 million Filipinos at siya hindi nya ako ibinoto. Ang binoto nya ‘yung mga natalo. Ngayon pa resignin n’ya ako? Who you, sabihin mo sya. Who you? Padamihin nyo ng padamihin (ang bashers ko). Wala akong pakialam, dumami kayo but alam ko marami pang Pilipino (who voted for me),” he said in a press conference in Camp Crame.

Dela Rosa was referring to the Twitter post made by radio DJ Czarina Balba, also known as DJ Chacha, calling for his resignation as senator and urging him to instead apply as Duterte’s bodyguard.

In another post, Balba said, “When you’re a public servant and your loyalty is towards a person and not towards the country, ang tawag dyan, TUTA.”

She posted the statements after Dela Rosa said that the welfare of the nation was more important than the 11,000 people who could lose their jobs if the legislative franchise of television network ABS-CBN is not renewed.

Duterte has repeatedly said that he would block the renewal of the company’s franchise, which is set to expire on March 30, 2020.

Dela Rosa explained that his loyalty is with Duterte, who as President represents the Filipino people.

“Gusto daw nila ako maging loyal sa taumbayan hindi sa isang tao lang, sa presidente? Who is the President? The President represents the Filipino people. Bakit ako naging loyal sa kanya? Dahil ginagawa nya ‘yung trabaho nya para sa kapakanan ng Filipino people. So ako loyal ako sa Presidente pero loyal ako sa taumbayan,” he said.
