Brunei Darussalam recorded one confirmed COVID-19 case yesterday, with the country continuing to record a low number of cases in the past four days. The total number of infected persons stands at 134.
Nine more cases who received treatment at the National Isolation Centre have recovered and were permitted to go home. This brings the total number of persons who have recovered in the country to 65.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar highlighted the details at a press conference yesterday.
Case 134 is a 22-year-old local student who flew into the country from the United States (US) via United Kingdom (UK) on Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) flight BI004 seat number 36G. The student arrived on March 29. He was in self-isolation after arrival and did not have any symptoms of infection, the minister said.
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said nine more cases treated at the National Isolation Centre have recovered and been allowed to return home, bringing the total number of persons who have recovered to 65.
The minister said this means 68 cases are still receiving treatment at the centre of which three are in critical condition and in need of the ventilator machine. One patient still needs the heart/lung machine (ECMO). The other cases are in stable condition.

Four hundred and forty individuals are undergoing quarantine in accordance to the Infectious Diseases Act (Chapter 204). Meanwhile, 1,898 individuals completed their quarantine and are in stable condition.
Since early January, 7,566 laboratory tests for COVID-19 have been conducted, leading to a ratio of one in 57 of the country’s residents having tested for COVID-19.
Monitoring the current situation, the minister said, “This shows that the number of laboratory tests in Brunei Darussalam has increased which leads to the maximum capacity of up to 1,000 tests per day.”
Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham said there is a decreasing trend in confirmed cases and reported cases daily as well as an increase in the number of recovered patients. This is among the signs that shows the COVID- 19 outbreak in the country is well under control. The minister said citizens and residents of the country must not be complacent because the pandemic is still spreading fast in other countries.
The cases reported around the world as of yesterday stood at more than one million with more than 50,000 fatalities. “Therefore, although Brunei Darussalam managed to flatten the curve, our county is still under threat of importing the virus from overseas. The public should continue to pray that our country can control the spread of COVID- 19 and that our patients can recover fully as well as our nation is always protected by Allah the Almighty.”
According to healthinfo.gov.bn, the breakdown of cases shows 107 in the Brunei-Muara District, 23 in the Belait District and four in the Tutong District. There are no cases in the Temburong District.
