Six out of the 10 remaining patients with Covid-19 at Mittaphab Hospital have tested negative for the virus for the first time and will be discharged on Saturday (May 9) if they test negative for a second time.
The six patients were scheduled to be tested on Friday and will be allowed to return home if a second test on Saturday is also negative, it was reported at the daily media briefing on Friday.
The news was delivered by Deputy Minister of Health, Associate Prof. Dr Phouthone Muongpak, who is Deputy Head of the National Taskforce Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

From January to May 7, a total of 2,733 people were tested for the virus, with 19 people testing positive. Nine of the 19 people infected the virus have since recovered.
There have been no new confirmed cases of the virus for the past 26 consecutive days.
As of 5 pm on May 7, a total of 2,001 people who entered Laos through international border checkpoints had been screened for symptoms of Covid-19 but none showed signs of fever.
Of these, 1,233 people crossed into Laos from Thailand, of whom 95 were Lao nationals returning to their homes in Champassak province. They were sent to a local quarantine centre for 14 days. The rest were truck drivers bringing goods into Laos.
A total of 17 truck drivers entered Laos from China, while 751 entered from Vietnam.
Dr Phouthone said samples taken from 129 people were tested for the coronavirus on May 7, including 12 people suspected of having the virus. Samples taken from 105 Lao workers returning from Thailand were also tested, but all the results were negative.
As of May 7, a total of 1,010 people, including Lao workers returning from neighbouring countries, had been placed in 83 quarantine centres. All of them were tested for the coronavirus but all the results were negative.

As of 6 am on May 8, a total of 3,910,374 people in 212 countries had contracted Covid-19. The virus has claimed 270,302 lives, while at least 1,335,248 people have recovered, according to the Taskforce Committee.
