Official daily COVID case numbers were once again much lower than expected, despite seemingly significantly higher provincial numbers being reported again.
Cambodia today announced an official daily new cases total of 493, bringing the COVID case total to 88,735 cases.
The total number of Community Cases is now 74,742 with 13,993 cases being imported.
189 imported cases were announced today as imported case numbers continue to be higher as a consequence of the Thai border reopening last week.
Provincial cases continue to rise – despite low official national figures – and the provinces – and especially the 8 provinces bordering Thailand – are at the vanguard of Cambodia’s fight against COVID.
There is some confusion over the provincial figures – with individual provincial totals seemingly not correlating to the national totals announced daily.
Banteay Meanchey province, in particular, is currently experiencing a ‘surge’ in COVID cases – with another 210 cases recorded today.
The new ‘Delta’ variant continues to cause worries, with a big jump of 342 cases being announced yesterday – bringing the ‘Delta’ case total close to 1,000.
