Vietnamese artists win gold prize at Cuban event

HÀ NỘI — An acrobatic aerial performance by two Vietnamese artists won the highest prize at the International Circus Festival Circuba 2017, held in Cuba between June 25 and July 2.

This is the first time artists Ngọc Ánh and Thu Thủy from the Việt Nam Circus and Variety School have participated in the event. They enthralled the local audience with their precise and strong movements while spinning in the air at high speed during their performance titled Cánh Chim Việt (Vietnamese Wings).

During the 10 times the artists performed to northern folk songBèo Dạt Mây Trôi, they received non-stop applause from the audience and got the highest scores from the judges.

The third largest annual international circus event comprised 34 performances by artists from 16 countries.

Hoàng Minh Khánh, rector of the school, said the performance by the two artists was aimed at enhancing Việt Nam’s reputation in the field as well as introducing the country and people through the art.

“I was very happy to receive this prestigious prize,” artist Ngọc Ánh said, “I just want to express my sincere thanks to my teachers and the school’s managers, who helped us practise and compete at the event.” — VNS
