Jakarta. The Ministry of Trade, the Association of Indonesian Retailers, or Aprindo, and the Indonesian Business Women’s Association, or Iwapi, signed a cooperation agreement aimed at allowing small businesses gain access to modern retailers.

State-run news agency Antara reported on Tuesday (28/10) that the cooperation intends to help facilitate micro, small and medium enterprises get access to members of Aprindo, many of which are modern retailers.

“This is a way to introduce products from MSMEs to the modern retail market … to support the people’s economy,” Luther Palimbong, director for marketing of domestic products at the Trade Ministry, said during a visit to a modern retail outlet in Bekasi, West Java.

Aprindo chairman Roy N. Mandey, who is also a senior executive of the Lippo Group, was quoted by Antaranews on the same day as saying that products from MSMEs will also be introduced at Meikarta, the group’s major township development, which comprises various facilities, including a hypermarket.

Meikarta, which is designed to house up to a million people, is expected to see demand for retail goods to soar and the Lippo Group believes local suppliers can help meet that demand.

Iwapi, with many of its members involved in MSMEs, expects to be able to supply various of their products, such as food and beverages and fast-moving consumer goods, to hypermarkets.
