China is on a “charm offensive” on television in the Philippines, which its detractors here say is an effort to present a “softer” side of Beijing and win over those doubtful of its intentions.

Last month, the Philippines’ state-run TV network PTV-4 announced it would air Chinese documentaries, cartoons, TV shows and movies dubbed in Tagalog, the national language. It is set to start airing next month a documentary about Marco Polo, a romance series, a cartoon and a movie, all made in China. /  PUBLISHED / 4 HOURS AGO
