HEADLINE : BRUNEI – Contracts signed for three projects costing BND15M

THE Public Works Department (JKR) under the Ministry of Development (MoD) yesterday held a contract-signing for three separate projects that cost more than BND15 million.

The contract-signing ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Development Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Development Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin; Permanent Secretary (Infrastructure, Housing and Professional) at the MoD Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Construction Industry and Development) at the MoD Hajah Siti Aidah binti Haji Mohammad and Acting Director-General of JKR Alice Lim Sui Kau.

The coastal erosion control project along the Kampong Danau beach in Tutong District, which comes with a contract price tag of BND5,686,328, went to Ocean Quarry and Construction Sdn Bhd.

The project is expected to take up to 72 months for the construction of beach nourishment and sand reclamation work.

These measures are hoped to control and reduce the risk of beach erosion from Kampong Danau to Kampong Lumut, along with boosting the area’s potential as a tourist attraction.

Representing Ocean Quarry and Construction Sdn Bhd was Dato Paduka Haji Junaidi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Setia Dato Paduka Haji Hashim while Acting Director of Drainage and Sewerage Haji Mohd Salleh bin Haji Abdul Karim signed on behalf of JKR.

The repair work for the road leading to Serasa Beach, which comes with the cost of BND6,700,600.50, was awarded to Salishah and Sons (B) Sdn Bhd.

The scope of the work includes rehabilitation of the asphalt pavement, together with the widening and strengthening of the existing road structure.

The main objective of the project is to increase the level of comfort and safety for road users, in addition to upgrading the road structure to accommodate heavy vehicles from industrial areas.

Signing on behalf of Salishah and Sons (B) Sdn Bhd was Dr Haji Mohd Shah bin Haji Ahmad, while Acting Director of Roads Haji Mazlan bin Haji Abdul Salim signed on behalf of JKR.

The third and final project, which comes with the contract price of BND3,223,00 for a 30-month period, was awarded to Syarikat Haji Sanip bin Taramdan & Anak-Anak Sdn Bhd.

The scope of work includes the supply and delivery of calcium carbonate to the water treatment plants in Bukit Barun and Layong, as well as the chemical store for the Water Services Department in Sinarubai.

The project also includes the provision of facilities for the storage of chemicals in 1,000 metric tonnes, along with the trans-shipment of 30,000 metric tonnes to the Layong and Barun water treatment plants, for the continuous production of clean and quality water in accordance with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.

Haji Tajuddin bin Haji Sarip signed the contract for Syarikat Haji Sanip bin Taramdan & Anak-Anak Sdn Bhd, while Acting Head of Water Services Aida binti Haji Abdul Hamid signed for JKR.

Following the contract-signing, the Minister of Development was invited to witness an exhibition and meet with the companies’ representatives.
