As per FIBA, The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup in China will be the biggest edition of FIBA’s flagship event with a record 32 participating teams. In its 18th edition, the FIBA Basketball World Cup will take place in China for the first time ever. The tournament will be played in 8 cities – Beijing, Foshan, Wuhan, Shenzhen, Dongguan, Nanjing, Shanghai and Guangzhou – across 5 provinces. The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will see 92 games played over 16 days.

For the first time, the FIBA Basketball World Cup will qualify 7 teams directly to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The 16 next best teams at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 will each be granted a place in 1 of the 4 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in 2020, where they will have another chance to qualify for the Olympic Games.
