Jakarta. Six more people died from coronavirus in Indonesia on Tuesday, bringing the country’s death toll from Covid-19 to 55 as a worrisome trend continues where the number of deaths keeps beating the number of patients recovering from the disease.

In fact, no recovery was reported by the government’s Covid-19 Task Force on Tuesday.

“The number of recoveries is unchanged. It remains at 30 [same as yesterday],” task force spokesman Achmad Yurianto said in a daily video conference in Jakarta.

He mentioned that seven people died from the disease over the last two days, but a check on the task force statistics showed double citations on one fatality in South Sulawesi province.

However, the cumulative death toll is correctly put at 55, up from 49 yesterday.

Positive cases again grew at a faster pace by 107 to a total of 686 – the biggest single-day rise since the first positive cases were reported early this month.

The government figure also shows the number of affected provinces has grown from 20 to 24. Jakarta remains the hardest hit by the virus with 424 cases and 31 deaths.

YANGON, Myanmar- Yangon police intervene to pacify man in COVID-19 operation

 .

Health and local officials in Yangon sought the help of the police to pacify a 38-year-old man who refused to follow the government’s anti-COVID-19 protocols, a regional lawmaker said on Wednesday.

The local authorities visited the house of the man in Yangon’s South Okkapala township on Tuesday after receiving information from concerned residents that he was on the same flight with the 26-year-old man who tested positive for the virus earlier in the day, U Moe Myint, a regional legislator from South Okkapala.

The 26-year-old man arrived in Yangon on Saturday from the United Kingdom through Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand. The health ministry on Tuesday morning announced that the man tested positive for the coronavirus and is being placed under isolation at Insein General Hospital.

“The health and administration department officials and the police went to [the 38-year-old man’s] residence on Tuesday,” U Moe Myint told the local media. “At first, the man refused to go. He only agreed after police warned he would be facing legal action.”

He was taken to the police station after he cursed at those who reported him to the local authorities.

“He will be sent to a hospital as a person under investigation. He took the same plane as the person who tested positive for COVID-19 in Insein,” U Moe Myint said.

As of March 25, Myanmar has three confirmed COVID-19 patients; two came from the United Kingdom while the other came from the United States.

The government reminded the public that failure to report people suspected of being infected with the virus, or failure to report people who showed symptoms of the pneumonia-like disease, such as fever, coughing, and shortness of breath, can be imprisoned for up to one month.

The government imposed strict regulations for local and foreign travelers coming from virus-stricken countries to undergo 14-day facility quarantine upon arrival in Myanmar.
