COVID-19 THE “PLAGUE”: Day 137: Frontline doctor among three new COVID-19 cases in Myanmar

A frontline medical doctor treating COVID-19 patients in one of the country’s government hospitals is among the three new victims of the dreaded disease, the Health Ministry announced on April 11.

The three new patients brought to 31 the total number of COVID patients in the country. Three of them died while two made full recoveries.

The 58-year-old female doctor has a history of treating in proximity one of the COVID-19 patients at Pyay General Hospital in Bago Region, based on the investigation of The Myanmar Times.

She is the anaesthesiologist of one of the COVID-19 patients who died recently.

The Ministry said the doctor remains in good health condition.

Another new COVID-19 is a 26-year-old man from Taunggyi township in  Shan State (south) who came from England and arrived in Yangon on March 28.

He was under facility quarantine at a designated building in Mingaladon township in Yangon. He will be transferred to Sao San Tun General Hospital in Taunggyi to undergo treatment. So far, he is also in good health.

The third new COVID 19 patient is a 49-year-old woman from Tedim township in Chin State. She allowed the first infected person in the country, a 36-year-old man who came from the United States, to stay at her residence for one night.

Authorities restricted the movements of the woman since the 36-year-old man was found infected with the virus on March 23. She will be confined at the Tedim General Hospital to undergo treatment.

The three were among the swab samples taken from 167 persons the National Health Laboratory processed on April 10.

Medical personnel and local authorities are currently monitoring thousands of other people across the country under quarantine on suspicion of COVID-19 infections.

Most of the people under quarantine are those who recently came back from abroad, those who came into direct contact with COVID-19 patients, and those who show symptoms of the disease such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath.
