MANILA, Philippines — The total number of coronavirus cases in the country soared to 47,873 on Tuesday, with 1,540 new cases.

Of the new cases, 993 were “fresh” or those whose positive results were validated and released within three days, while 547 were considered “late cases,” or those whose results were validated four days or later, the Department of Health announced Tuesday.

The total of recovered patients also rose to 12,386 with 201 new recoveries.
