Ministry of Health spokeswoman Or Vandine said yesterday the emergency response team of the Siem Reap Provincial Health Department as well as the Department of Infectious Diseases conducted the contact tracing.

“We continued to search and found a total of 57 people who had direct and indirect contact with him. These included his friends, those who interacted with him, those who ate with him, who went to any places as well the swimming pool where he was and so on,” she said. “The results of all 57 tests were negative for COVID-19”.

“Separately, in Phnom Penh, the team also found passengers [from his flight] and they tested negative. Other passengers could not be tested because they returned on connecting flights to their home countries,” she added.

Vandine said the emergency response team worked hard day and night searching for people who were in contact. “If a patient does not cooperate, does not provide a truthful answer or information about his activities, or if he hides the information, the team will find it difficult to do their job,” she said.

On Monday, the Ministry of Health announced that a 27-year-old French man travelled from France via Singapore on September 20, waited at a hotel in Phnom Penh for two nights until his first test came back negative, then he left in a minibus to his home address in Siem Reap.

On the 13th day of his quarantine (October 3) he tested again and was found to be positive. He has been admitted to Siem Reap Provincial Referral Hospital.

On Tuesday, Khmer Times received reports that the Frenchman did not do his mandatory 14-day self-quarantine and he was seen at events around the town. The first event the man was reportedly seen at was a music event held in the Navutu Dreams Resort, which involved a large-scale pool party held on September 26.

On Wednesday, the general manager of Navutu Dreams Resort, Jérémie Clément told Khmer Times that he heard the rumours on Monday afternoon and all staff subsequently underwent testing with everyone receiving negative results on Wednesday morning. The staff who were on shift are currently at home. They have been advised that a second test will have to be taken two weeks after exposure.

Meanwhile, Cambodia has registered a new imported COVID-19 case in an Indonesian man.

In its statement issued yesterday, the Health Ministry said the 26-year-old was diagnosed with the virus after arriving from Indonesia via a Singapore flight on Tuesday.

He is receiving medical treatment at the Khmer-Soviet friendship hospital in Phnom Penh.

The other 112 passengers who boarded the flight with him tested negative for the virus but are now in quarantine.
